How to create the Facebook Messenger plugin for website?

To allow your visitors to contact you through the Messenger chat directly on your site, you must configure the "Messenger" plugin for website.

To do this, go to your Facebook Page and click on the "Inbox" tab in the "Manage Page" column on the left:

Then click on the "Chat Plugin" tab:

If Facebook redirect you on Meta suits  https://business.facebook.com/latest/inbox/ Click on configuration icon on the top right and you will find the chat plugin here

Set Up Your Chat Plugin

In the "Set Up Your Chat Plugin" section, click on "Set Up":

Step 1: Set Language (optional)

You can choose the default language of your plugin, but it doesn't really matter. Indeed, whatever language you indicate here, our module allows you to display the chat in the current language of the shop. Therefore, if your visitor displays your site in French, then he will see the chat in French, even if you indicate "English" as default language. Nevertheless, select the default language of your site for example and click on "Save & Continue":

Step 2: Add the domain of your shop (mandatory)

You must indicate the domain of your website so that the chat is displayed on your site. Indeed, in this way, your domain will be authorized by Facebook and your chat can be used on your site. Note that you can indicate several domains. Save your domain(s) and click on "Save & Continue":

Step 3 and 4: plugin code (steps not required)

Our module will automatically integrate the code of your chat plugin on your site, so you do not need to copy and paste its code on your site and you can skip the following steps by clicking directly on the small cross to close the window:

Start the Conversation

Welcome Message (not to be done here but in the "Automated Responses" tab of the inbox)

This option allows you to send an automatic reply to the first message sent by a chat user (please note: this message will only be displayed if a first message is sent, which is different from the greeting message, see below). This part has just been integrated into the configuration of the chat plugin by Facebook and does not yet work in this tab. This is why, if you want to write a welcome message, you must do it in the "Automated Responses" tab -> "Greet People" -> "Instant Reply", once you have finished the configuration of the chat plugin:

For now, skip this option. You can set up your automatic welcome message later, in the "Automated Responses" tab.

Frequently Asked Questions (not to be done here but in the "Automated Responses" tab of the inbox)

The "Frequently Asked Questions" section allows you to write questions that will be suggested to your customers when they open the chat. This part has just been integrated into the configuration of the chat plugin by Facebook and does not yet work in this tab. This is why, if you want to display suggested questions, you must do it in the "Automated Responses" tab -> "Share and Get Information" -> "Frequently Asked Questions", once you have finished the configuration of the chat plugin:

You will be able to write your questions and associated answers. Please note, however, that due to new privacy rules in Europe, the answers associated with these questions (which would normally appear automatically after clicking on the suggested question) are currently not available to people and Pages located in Europe. Your users will see the suggested questions but will not have the answer automatically displayed (you will simply have to write it yourself).

For now, skip this option. You can set up your automatic welcome message later, in the "Automated Responses" tab.

Customize Your Chat Plugin

Greeting message (mandatory, to be done into the module)

The greeting text is mandatory (you cannot disable the option). This is the text that will be displayed to welcome chat users before they send their first message (through the chat on your website, not on your Facebook Page). However, don't write the text here because we allow you to do it directly through the module configuration, and moreover, in all the languages of your shop. You will also be able to write a specific text (in each language of your shop) for people who are not connected to Facebook.

Leave the default text for now and move on to the next option.

Guest chat (optional, to be done here as it cannot be modified through the module)

Some people may not be able/want to log in to Facebook to contact you (because they don't have a Facebook account, because they forgot their password, or because they simply want to remain anonymous). To avoid this login barrier, Messenger allows you to use the "guest" mode which allows anyone to contact you, even without a Facebook account, while remaining anonymous. They will just have to click on "Continue as Guest".

Note: This option cannot be changed directly through the module. If you want to change it, you can always come back and do it here, through the "Chat Plugin" tab of your Page inbox.

Custom color (must be defined through the module)

This option allows you to choose a color for your chat theme. However, do not do it here because you can do it directly through our module (tab "Messenger chat settings"). Moreover, whatever color you choose here, it will be replaced by the one defined in the module. That's why it's useless to define it here. You can skip this step.

Alignment (optional, to be done here as it cannot be modified through the module)

Choose the alignment (right or left) and the space to be inserted under your chat plugin on your store (a preview of the changes is displayed live on the right). You can choose a different spacing on mobile. Feel free to navigate between the desktop and mobile previews in the right column. You can always come back and change the alignment settings later, especially if you decide to display the WhatsApp chat plugin as well (margin adjustments will surely be necessary).

Note: These settings cannot be changed directly through the module. If you want to change them, you can always come back and do it here, through the "Chat Plugin" tab of your Page inbox.

Automatically expand (optional, to be done here as it cannot be modified through the module)

You can choose to automatically expand the chat plugin each time a page of your site is loaded by activating the option "Expand automatically".

Note: this option cannot be changed through the module. If you want to change it, you can always come back and do it here, through the "Chat Plugin" tab of your Page inbox.

Finally, click on "Publish".

Enter your Facebook Page ID in the "Messenger chat settings" tab of the module and save: you should see the chat plugin displayed on your site. If not, go to the "Advanced Settings" tab of the plugin and check the chat hours, it may not be active at the time you are testing. Make the schedule modification to make the chat available and redo the test.

Then go to the module to set a color for your chat theme and configure the greeting texts, in all languages.
