How to get an Instagram business account?

For your retail business, choose an Instagram Business account. Meta distinguishes professional business and creator accounts; the profile category alone does not determine the account type.

Before converting a private account: Meta states that switching to a professional account makes it public and automatically accepts pending follow requests. Check that this change suits your intended use.

  1. In the Instagram app, open your profile, then More to access Settings and activity.
  2. Under For professionals, open Account type and tools, then Switch to professional account.
  3. Choose a category matching your business, then the Business account type and continue.
  4. Check which contact details you want displayed publicly. Connecting a Facebook Page is optional during conversion; to do it separately, see connecting Instagram and a Page.
