How to get an OpenAI API key?

The AI assistant uses the OpenAI API. Review API pricing and check project billing before enabling AI features. API usage is managed separately from your ChatGPT subscription.

1. Sign in to the OpenAI platform API keys page and select the project for your shop.
2. Create a new secret key and give it a recognizable name. Both the key’s permissions and your project role must allow the resources used by the module. All grants broad access; it is not an absolute prerequisite. For a restricted key, have the required operations authorized, including /v1/chat/completions and /v1/moderations.
3. Copy the key immediately and store it in a secret manager: its full value will not be shown again. Do not share it in emails, screenshots or support requests.
4. In the module, open AI assistant → OpenAI API key, paste the key and save.

For authorization or quota errors, check the project, permissions and billing. Revoke and replace any exposed key.
