How to create a GA4 property for my website?
The module installs the Google Analytics 4 (GA4) tag on your store. To receive data in Google Analytics, you need a GA4 property and a Web data stream for your store.
Create the property and Web stream
- Sign in to Google Analytics and select the account intended for your store. Create an Analytics account if you do not have one. You need the Editor role to add a property to an account.
- In Admin, click Create, then Property. Enter the property name, reporting time zone and currency. For a store using several currencies, choose the currency in which you want to read reports.
- Enter your industry and business size, then select the objectives that match your business. Complete creation and accept the terms requested by Google.
- Add a data stream and choose Web. For an existing property, go to Admin > Data collection and modification > Data streams.
- Enter the actual store URL, using the appropriate protocol, and a stream name. Review the enhanced measurement settings offered by Google, then create the stream.
- Open the stream details and retrieve its measurement ID starting with
G-. This FAQ explains where to find it and where to enter it in the module.
The module provides the store tag. Check your other modules and any Google Tag Manager container before adding another installation that would send the same events.
Configure consent, then test collection. Creating the property alone does not start collection from your store.
If you used Universal Analytics, see the information about the transition from UA.
