What if the Google Tag Assistant doesn't detect any data from my Google Analytics tag?

If Tag Assistant detects no data, identify where the test stops: connecting to the store, loading the tag, producing a local event or receiving it in GA4. Possible causes extend beyond your cookie banner.

  1. Check that tracking is enabled in the module and that the configured G- measurement ID matches the intended Web stream. See where to find the ID.
  2. Check browser extensions. The issue may involve the installation of the AdBlock extension on your browser, or any other cookie-blocking extension. Temporarily disable these extensions for the tested domain and retry.
  3. Check the Tag Assistant connection to the correct URL. Redirects, late script loading, a CSP policy or network blocking can interfere with the test. Your technician can inspect browser errors and requests.
  4. Look for a JavaScript error: it may originate in the theme, the module, another module or a technical change. See the JavaScript error detection guide.
  5. For purchase, check the payment return to confirmation, order data and eligibility criteria. Follow the order test.
  6. Examine consent in the test session. Establish a reference after acceptance, then test refusal, partial choices and withdrawal. Basic mode can block the tag without consent; advanced mode can send measurements without cookies. This behavior alone does not demonstrate a defect. See consent settings.

A CMP can send consent commands to the global tag; it does not necessarily need to retrieve your measurement ID itself. The destination still needs to be checked in the module and observed calls.

If only some clicks are missing, see the dedicated FAQ. If events are prepared but reports remain incomplete, follow the reception and reporting checks. Then repeat the full test.
